Private roads

I was just reading a George Will article about traffic (not the band), and I was reminded of an idea I had a while back. Why don't we privatize all roads except interstates? And not the wimpy, half-privatization that they did with airports and the USPS. What if private businesses and individual citizens had to find a way to pave and maintain the roads leading to their offices and homes? Of course, that would only work in a world where taxes were lower and government was wasting our money on mammoth bureaucracies. But in such a world I think it would work.
